India and Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of regulation of pharmaceutical medical products.
The MoU was signed between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) of India and the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA), marking a significant step towards deeper regulatory cooperation between the two countries.
The Director President, ANVISA, Leandro Safatale and the Indian Ambassador to Brazil, Dinesh Bhatia, exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding in the august presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at Hyderabad House.
The MoU will establish a structured framework for cooperation and exchange of information in the field of pharmaceutical products, pharmaceuticals, biological products and medical devices. It aims to promote uniformity in regulatory processes, enhance mutual understanding of regulatory systems, and facilitate effective and coordinated monitoring of medical products.
The agreement reflects the shared commitment of India and Brazil to ensure availability of safe, effective and quality medicines and medical products for their populations. The agreement is also expected to contribute to strengthening supply chains, encouraging regulatory best practices, and promoting access to affordable healthcare solutions.
The MoU between CDSCO and NVISA will further strengthen the extensive Indo-Brazil cooperation in the health sector and complement the existing institutional mechanisms for bilateral engagement. The MoU underscores the growing cooperation between the two countries in the field of health, pharmaceuticals, and medical technologies, particularly in the context of their shared priorities as leading partners of the Global South.
